Landscape Drawing - Hillside with Distant Trees, April 2013

Soluble NeocolorII crayons on white paper. April 2013.

This is one of a couple of drawings I made recently using some colours new to my NeocolorII range of soluble crayons. I wanted to work some subtle colour variations into different areas and I deliberately didn’t introduce any coloured pencil or graphite into it, so it does look a bit different to some of my recent drawings.

  1. Maggie says:

Yes, this is different than some of your previous work, and I like it. More painterly than those with graphite or colored pencils. Almost ethereal.

    1. Hi Maggie, Thanks for your kind comment! Yes, the use of only crayon, in this case soluble Neopastel 2 gives a very different feel, a drawing that has more in keeping with something painterly. I’m starting to integrate these new colours into my normal drawing style. I do so like the feel of monochrome though!! Best, Nicholas.

    1. Thank you for such a lovely comment, Ben. Much appreciated. I have been following your blog ever since I saw ‘storage tanks’ which is brilliant! As so much of your work is. Best, Nicholas.

  2. I’ve just discovered your work and it’s very impressive. The subtlety of your you images reminds me of the Chinese watercolors in our local museum, the Nelson-Atkins, here in Kansas City. But you have your own style and approach that I really enjoy. Looking forward to more.

    1. Hi, thank you for coming to look at my work! I’m glad I have a perceivable signature style too. Btw your photograph entitled homecomings, Martinborough was very emotive and moving as were the words. When you said you were leaving London I thought you meant ending your blog, so was delighted to see your new posts. Best, Nicholas.
